Special Events in Omaha

Sand in the City
Begun nine years ago, Sand in the City is a weekend festival that benefits the Nebraska Children's Home Society. It is usually held the first week of June and features a team sand sculpture competition.

Nebraska Balloon and Wine Festival
Held every August for the past five years, the Nebraska Balloon and Wine Festival has become an important part of Omaha in the summer. The festival features wine tastings, children's activities and a hot air balloon event that begins at sunset.

Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow
Commemorating the Trail of Tears and the trial of Ponca Chief Standing Bear, the Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow is held at the site of Standing Bear's imprisonment. The event features activities that celebrate the heritage of the Ponca, Winnebago, Omaha and Sioux Indians.

Railroad Days
Commemorating the Pacific Railroad Act and Union Pacific's sesquicentennial anniversary, Omaha's Railroad Days Festival features a ride on Union Pacific's mini train and complimentary admission to six local attractions.

Omaha Santa Lucia Festival
Created to uphold Italian heritage, the Omaha Santa Lucia Festival features authentic Italian music and food. The festival is a model of the Santa Lucia Festival that is held in Carlentini, Sicily.

Ak-Sar-Ben River City Rodeo
Nebraska's largest indoor rodeo, the Ak-Sar-Ben Rodeo began in 1947. The rodeo features the world's best cowboys competing in events such as the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour.

Taste of Omaha
Held every June, Taste of Omaha is a three-day food fest that features live music, fun for the entire family and the fare of the best restaurants in the area.

Omaha Greek Festival
Sponsored by St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, the Omaha Greek Festival is held every August and features authentic Greek food, music and folk dancing, in addition to activities for children.

Maha Music Festival
Created to build the Omaha community, the Maha Music Festival has been held in the summer every year since 2009 and features local acts and indie headliners.

Omaha Oktoberfest
Hosted by the German American Society of Omaha, Oktoberfest is a fall celebration of German culture and features German beer, food and music, in addition to children's activities.

Omaha Holiday Lights Festival
Held every year since 1999, the Omaha Holiday Lights Festival transforms downtown Omaha into a winter wonderland from Thanksgiving until the first week in January.
